Meeting people, networking and socializing is an essential component of every researcher's life. The people you need to talk to could include those within your academic circle (such as supervisors, mentors, or lab mates) those outside your circle (someone on LinkedIn, someone you need to approach for networking, people at an informal social fathering or different types of people you meet at academic conferences). Not every researcher I have met is a fan of networking or socializing. For many this is a cause of considerable stress.

Where do you stand on your comfort level when it comes to mingling among people in academic situations?
